The Columbia City Council approved the Landfill Site Master Plan on April 16, 2018. The expansion area south of the current permitted landfill footprint will serve as the future site for waste disposal and a source for renewable energy. The Landfill Lateral Expansion Permitting project will take up to five years and multiple project phases to be completed. Weaver Consultants Group has entered into contract with the City of Columbia to design, oversee, and assist with the execution of the project.

    The City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility hosted a Community Involvement session Aug. 4. At the meeting, citizens discussed the findings of the geologic investigation and submitted comments. Representatives of the City of Columbia, Weaver Consultants Group and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources were present.
