The City of Columbia Public Works Department is developing plans for a roundabout at the intersection of East Green Meadows Road and East Nifong Boulevard. The project also includes major pavement and sidewalk maintenance along East Green Meadows Road and Veterans United Drive. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in summer 2028.

An informal open house meeting will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in Conference Room 1A of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. City engineering staff will be available to share the design concepts, answer questions and hear feedback. A public comment form will also be available.

Green Meadows and Nifong Roundabout Project Overview - Shows a map of the project area, extending from approximately the eastmost parking lot entrance of Veterans United on Veterans United Drive east to the roundabout and north on East Green Meadows Drive to Grindstone Parkway. The image also describes the planned asphalt overlay, pavement markings, replacement of deficient sidewalk, and intersection improvements including a roundabout. It defines the budget as $2.1 million, funded by the quarter-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax.

Green Meadows and Nifong Roundabout Concept Plan - Shows a plan of the single-lane roundabout with 8-foot pedway on the north side with bike ramps, crosswalks, bicycle lane improvements, as well as a 5-foot sidewalk on the south side of the roundabout. The document lists a crash summary for 2021-2025 in the area, listing 26 crashes involving 53 vehicles and nine people injured. Currently, the roundabout has an "F" grade level of service, with a traffic study showing an average of 92 seconds of delay per vehicle. With a roundabout, this is projected to become a "B" grade level of service, with 15 seconds of delay per vehicle. The document also lists project information such as pavement maintenance, asphalt overlay, pavement markings and replacement of deficient sidewalk. It defines the budget as $2.1 million, funded by the quarter-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax.
