The City of Columbia Public Works Department is designing a sidewalk project in the northern part of Columbia along the west side of Oakland Gravel Road between Vandiver Drive and Grizzly Court. The project will install a five-foot wide concrete sidewalk to fill in sidewalk gaps to connect to the existing sidewalk along Vandiver Drive and the existing sidewalk at Grizzly Court. The project will also include improving the pedestrian crossing at the Vandiver Drive and Oakland Gravel Road intersection.
The Oakland Park and Oakland Middle School are located just north of the project limits. Businesses along Vandiver Drive and along Paris Road are located just south of the project limits. The improvement is a designated sidewalk project listed in the City's Sidewalk Master Plan.
The interested parties meeting was held June 7, 2022, and the public hearing was held Sept. 6, 2022.
Beginning Tuesday, June 27 at 7 a.m., Concrete Solution LLC, contractor for the City of Columbia Public Works department, will begin work on the project. Once the work begins, sidewalk closures and intermittent lane restrictions will be required.
The construction cost for the project is $318,000, paid for by the capital improvement sales tax.
