The City of Columbia Public Works department is developing plans to construct a sidewalk along the east side of Pershing Road between Gary Street and the Again Street Park. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in fall 2027. We are sharing the project with nearby residents and property owners to provide an opportunity to learn more about the proposed sidewalk and provide feedback as the design develops.
An informal open house meeting will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in Conference Room 1B of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. City engineering staff will be available to share the design concept, answer questions and hear feedback. You can attend the open house at any time during the meeting. A public comment form will also be available.
In the documents section of the website, a concept plan is available. This document shows the planned location of new sidewalk along the east side of Pershing Street. It also shows planned ADA curb ramps on the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection of Pershing Road and Gary Street, as well as at the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection of Pershing Road and Ash Street. The plan documents areas where vegetation is planned to be removed. Between Gary Street and Ash Street, the plans show the location of the five-foot-wide sidewalk with a three-foot grass strip between the sidewalk and curb, the areas where driveway approaches will be reconstructed, and the area where the existing storm pipe will be replaced, just to the south of Ash Street. North of Ash Street, the document shows the reconstruction of driveway approaches and the new six-foot sidewalk, which is planned to be located at the back of the curb.
If you cannot attend the meeting, you can submit comments and questions using the tabs below. Your feedback will help City staff understand questions and concerns from people who live, work or travel in the area.
Additional information about the project will be posted here as it becomes available.
