Key Dates

A resolution (R161-25) has been passed that authorizes the City Clerk's office to place the codes on file for a minimum of ninety (90) days.  This is required before any adoption can be presented in the form of an ordinance.

An open forum is planned into the schedule during the public notice period.  This will include a public hearing in which members of the BCCC, Staff, and code professionals will be available to answer questions received through the website and via email.  The intention of the forum is to add clarity and understanding of the changes as we consider moving from the 2018 code cycle to the 2024 code cycle.

The Building Construction Codes Commission made a motion to adopt the 2024 ICC Suite of Code with exception of staying in the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code.  This vote was approved with a 9-2 vote by the members.  This recommendation will be presented to the City Council at a future date.

This will be the first of two meetings at City Council in which the recommended 2024 Code Adoption is expected to be presented.

On August 17, 2026 the City Council in Columbia, MO voted (7-0) to adopt the 2024 International Codes with amendments and to be put into effect on October 1, 2026.  This did not include at the time the International Energy Conservation Code and the currently adopted 2018 IECC will remain in effect until further review.

Project submitted for review prior to October 1, 2026 will be reviewed per the 2018 ICC Codes and those submitted after October 1, will be reviewed with respect to the 2024 ICC Codes.

On September 21, 2026, the City Council of Columbia, MO will take up an ordinance and hearing to review the 2024 IECC codes with recommendations for amendments.  This meeting will be open for the public to comment and address City Council with respect to the Adoption or amendments to the code.
