Construction on the roundabout will start Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The Fairview Road and Chapel Hill Road roundabout project proposes the reconstruction of the existing four-way stop intersection located at Fairview Road and Chapel Hill Road, replacing it with a roundabout. Based on the results of a traffic study (found in the Documents section of this page), it was determined that a roundabout at this location would help to increase safety and efficiency for all modes of travel at all times of the day. The proposed improvements include a single lane, 110-foot diameter roundabout complemented by 5-foot wide sidewalks and splitter islands. The project will also include a 5-foot wide sidewalk to fill in the sidewalk gap along the north side of Chapel Hill Road between Fairview Road and Handley Place.
