The City of Columbia Public Works department is seeking feedback on a proposed improvement project on Garth Avenue. This project will include reconstruction of the pavement, curbs and existing sidewalk sections in various locations along Garth Avenue. The project may also include the construction of a sidewalk on the east side of Garth Avenue, filling in sidewalk gaps between Texas Avenue and Thurman Street. Finally, the project will include an asphalt overlay along Garth Avenue between Texas Avenue and Thurman Street.
The Public Works department held an informal open house meeting concerning this project on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
At the open house, diagrams showing the design concepts were available for public review. The improvement plans that will be displayed at the meeting are now available in the Documents section of this website.
There was a public hearing to discuss the proposed design during the City Council meeting Monday, April 21. Following this, City Council approved the project. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026.
