At its regular meeting on May 19, 2025, the Columbia City Council approved the design and construction of the Sewer Utility's Henderson Branch Sewer Extension to the Midway area.
The Sewer Utility has presented preliminary concepts for the construction of sanitary sewers near the area of N. Highway UU, W. Sugar Creek Drive, and W. Van Horn Tavern Road.
The sewer extension will include the construction of approximately 10,000 linear feet of sewer pipe that would be available for adjacent properties to connect to the City’s public sanitary sewer. The project would allow for the removal of two private treatment facilities that are discharging into Henderson Branch and Perche Creek.
Construction on this project will be scheduled in coordination with the Interstate 70 expansion project.
This project is estimated to cost $5.4 million, provided from Sewer Utility enterprise funds with reimbursement of costs through special connection fees charged to the properties as they connect to the City’s sewer.
