A Steering Committee is developing a Strategic Plan focused on homelessness in our community. The Committee is seeking input from community members and organizations to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges, opportunities, and priorities that should help shape the Strategic Plan.

When creating the action steps, the Committee will consider primary and secondary data, community needs, and feasibility. The Committee will collect input from a variety of stakeholders, including individuals with lived experience, organizations that have direct connections with individuals experiencing homelessness, business owners, higher education institutions, and more.

The Steering Committee is seeking input from community members through engagement and surveys to help identify priorities, challenges, and opportunities that will inform the Strategic Plan and future community efforts to address homelessness. Please post comments and questions below. Also click the link on the right side of the page to take a quick survey!

The Steering Committee will meet regularly to present its findings and action steps to the Columbia City Council and Boone County Commission.

The Steering Committee created the following vision statement for the project:

“A community sharing responsibility for preventing and ending homelessness through access to safe, stable housing options for everyone, meaningful trauma-informed support, and promoting public safety for all residents.”

Thanks for the question. The Steering Committee is currently collecting data to help inform the Strategic Plan. After the data is collected and analyzed, the Committee will use the data to create action items that will be presented to City Council. Since the action items haven't been created yet, we don't have information about what a wraparound services plan would include or cost.

Thanks for the question. At this phase in the process, data is being collected from various organizations, institutions, individuals and the general public. The goal is to identify priorities, challenges and opportunities that will inform the Strategic Plan. After the data is collected and analyzed, the Steering Committee will create action steps to present to City Council. The objectives and actions will depend on the primary and secondary data collected.

Thanks for the question. The group is speaking with many different organizations, providers and individuals to get different perspectives to identify priorities, challenges and opportunities related to creating the Strategic Plan. An important part of what the Steering Committee has kept at the forefront is that we are talking about people, not just an issue.

Will we prioritize services to families/individuals with children?

Gloria L Crull asked 30 days ago

Thanks for the question. We will be speaking with service providers who serve children and families who are experiencing homelessness or have unstable housing. Additionally, we will be speaking with youth who are currently experiencing homelessness. The Steering Committee will review the findings from the data collected to submit suggested actions to the City Council.
