The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking public input for the MKT Trail Bridge Replacement Project. The project will replace bridge #9 and renovate bridge #10 located on the MKT Trail. This project was identified for funding by the 2021 Park Sales Tax ballot. The weight limit for the original timber-framed railway bridges safely supports bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Bridges #9 and #10 are weight-restricted prohibiting safe passage for maintenance and emergency medical vehicles.
For funding assistance, Park staff plan to complete a Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant application. RTP is a competitive, federally-funded grant program for trail-related projects. The purpose of this program is to promote motorized and non-motorized recreational trails. If awarded, the RTP grant will allow the Parks and Recreation Department to leverage available Parks Sales Tax dollars and donated funds to replace bridge #9 and renovate bridge #10. The maximum grant match for the program is $250,000. The source for the City's grant match will be the 2021 Park Sales Tax and donations from the Richard T. Eyler Trust in the amount of $350,000.
