The City of Columbia Public Works Department has received a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) cost-share grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to fund two sidewalk improvement projects in northeast Columbia. These projects, located on Oakland Gravel Road and Vandiver Drive, aim to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity in northeast Columbia.
Oakland Gravel Road Sidewalk (Blue Ridge Road to Smiley Lane): A 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk with a grass parkway will be constructed along the west side of Oakland Gravel Road, filling in gaps between Blue Ridge Road and Smiley Lane. This project completes the last missing sections of sidewalk along this roadway, providing continuous pedestrian access to nearby schools, a park and a clinic.
Vandiver Drive Sidewalk (Oakland Gravel Road to Parker Street): A 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk with a grass parkway will be built on the south side of Vandiver Drive, from Oakland Gravel Road to the Parker Street roundabout. This project will include a new pedestrian crossing signal and crosswalk at the Vandiver and Oakland Gravel intersection and will allow future connection to a proposed trail along the COLT railroad.
Construction for both projects is scheduled to begin in summer 2026.
