The City of Columbia Public Works department is planning improvements to the culvert structure on Old Plank Road, just south of the intersection with Forum Boulevard. The existing structure, built in 1986, consists of three 66-inch corrugated metal pipes with an asphalt roadway above.

Over time, the culverts have deteriorated significantly, and approximately 90% of the metal at the bottom is rusted through, resulting in a loss of bedding material beneath the pipes. To address these issues, the project will remove the existing culverts and replace them with a single opening arch structure.

The project design is being provided by Bartlett & West, which was selected through the City’s pre-qualified professional consultants process. This project is being funded through the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Regional Bridge (BRO) Program, which supports the replacement of structurally deficient bridge structures.

The total estimated cost of design and construction is $620,000. MoDOT will provide up to $282,763 in BRO funding, with the remaining costs covered by the City through the quarter-cent Capital Improvement Program (CIP) sales tax and other appropriate funding sources.

An interested parties meeting will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at Gentry Middle School, 4200 Bethel St. At the meeting, community members can review design information and speak with Columbia Public Works staff.
