Providing reliable and affordable electricity is a priority for City of Columbia Utilities. At the Sept. 2 City Council meeting, the Council approved a 2% increase on electric rates for Fiscal Year 2026. The projected $2.8 million in increased revenue would help the Electric Utility cover increased operation and maintenance expenses, maintain cash reserve levels; and ensure adequate debt coverage.

The new electric rates will go into effect with the first billing cycling in October.

Bill breakdown

The Electric Utility's 2% increase will impact the customer charge and cost per kWh. The residential customer charge will go from $22 per month to $22.44 per month. Usage rates are dependent on the customer’s rate class.
