The City of Columbia Sewer Utility is proposing to replace a failing privately maintained sewer system for property owners near the intersection of South West Boulevard and West Stewart Road. If approved, the Utility would construct a new public sanitary sewer to serve these customers.

These proposed improvements are part of the Utility’s Private Common Collector Elimination (PCCE) project, which started in 2008. Private common collectors are major sources of inflow and infiltration of stormwater into the sanitary sewer system. By replacing the outdated private sewers and connecting these properties into the publicly maintained sewer, the City can reduce the occurrence of backups and overflows.

  • Share Greetings, Matt. I live at 911 West Rollins Rd. exactly two blocks south of this proposed intersection where the sewer work is to take place. Please advise if our water, sewage would be impacted by this work. Please also advise when the work is scheduled to begin, and how long it will take. Which roads will be closed and for how long. Thank you so much for your insight. on Facebook Share Greetings, Matt. I live at 911 West Rollins Rd. exactly two blocks south of this proposed intersection where the sewer work is to take place. Thank you for your questions.

None of your services will be impacted by this work.

As this is a proposal and any final plans will need to be approved by Council, it's too early to give any kind of schedule. The Utility is hoping for construction in early 2027.

South Greenwood will have one lane closed -- crews expect a few weeks at most.
