New: A Bethel and Green Meadows Roundabout Concept Plan has been added to the Documents section. This PDF shows plans for a single-lane roundabout with pedestrian crossings on each leg of the four-way intersection.

The City of Columbia Public Works department is planning to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Green Meadows Road and Bethel Street. The project will replace the existing four-way stop intersection with the goal of improving safety and traffic flow.

An interested parties meeting was held Thursday, Aug. 13. City engineering staff shared the proposed design and answered questions.

A public hearing is expected at an upcoming City Council meeting in fall 2026.

Construction is currently anticipated to begin in summer 2028.

Community input is an important part of the design process. Comments submitted by the public will be reviewed and considered as the roundabout design is developed.

Comments were accepted through Thursday, Aug. 27.

    Thank you for your questions and for sharing your concerns about the fencing and trees on the southwest corner of the project area. Based on the current design concept, the fencing and trees in that area may need to be removed to accommodate the proposed project improvements.

    As the design is finalized, City staff will work with affected property owners to determine the specific impacts to their property and discuss available options. Any property acquisition or impacts requiring removal of existing features will be addressed through the right-of-way acquisition process, with affected property owners compensated as required.

    We appreciate your suggestion regarding reusing the existing fence materials and relocating the trees. Those details can be discussed with the property owner and project team as the design develops.
